About the Project
‘Sometimes Magic Happens’ brings together clients from Bessbrook, Lurgan Park and the Choir Studio in Newry who are interested in arts and music. These groups worked with me and SHSCT Staff to create this new work called ‘Dance From The ARC to Lurgan Park’. It is shown in the video below as part of Evolve, an Arts Care SHSCT exhibition of participant’s work, and was performed live by participants at this event and also at the Burnavon Theatre in Cookstown. It a 7”30’ video/sound piece created with djembes, voice, guitar, bass and drums shot on location in Southern Health and Social Care Trust Day Opportunities Centres.
Gwen Stevenson, has a wide range of skills allowing her to offer different forms of arts though which healthcare environments can be enhanced and clients can engage and express themselves through a medium of their choice. Gwen’s pragmatic, problem-solving approach affirms my view that the arts should not be viewed as peripheral, something to be enjoyed in our leisure time. Rather it can be woven into the fabric of our everyday working lives to find creative approaches to the challenges we meet on an everyday basis. We look forward to another year of creativity in action!

We just had such fun. What a fantastic project and opportunity to work with sound and video to make something contemporary and current that we are all really proud to be part of. It’s brought us all together. The clients want copies of the DVD to keep and show off.
